This article explains how to format a USB stick so that it can be used for the Qwiek.up.
Clearing a USB stick
Insert the USB stick into the computer and open it in 'My Computer' or 'This PC'.
Warning! You are about to completely erase the USB stick.
Before clearing the USB stick, it is crucial to make a backup of the files you wish to save onto another computer or storage device.
Formatting for Apple users
Step 1: Insert the USB stick into one of the ports on your Mac computer.
Step 2: Click on the icon of the blue face (Finder) on your computer. It resembles a smiling face and is usually located at the bottom of your screen.
Step 3: In the Finder window, you will see a list on the left side with items such as your documents, images, and devices. You should also see the USB stick appear there.
Step 4: Right-click (or use two fingers on the touchpad) on the name of the USB stick, and a menu will appear. Choose the option 'Format' or 'Erase'.
Step 5: A new window will appear where you can choose how you want to format the USB stick. Select the option called 'MS-DOS (FAT)'.
Step 6: Optionally, give the USB stick a name.
Step 7: Click the 'Erase' button to start the formatting process. A warning will appear that all files on the USB stick will be deleted. If you are sure you have everything you want to keep saved, you can proceed.
Step 8: Wait a moment... and done! The USB stick is now formatted and empty. You can now use it to store new files.
Formatting for Windows users
Step 1: Click on the yellow folder located at the bottom of the screen.
Step 2: Place your cursor on the name of the USB stick and right-click. When done correctly, a menu will appear beneath the cursor.
Step 3: Now, click on the option 'Format'.
Step 4: In the window that appears, choose the 'FAT32' option under the 'File System' heading. You don't need to modify any of the other values.
Step 5: Now, you are going to format the USB stick. We want to remind you once again that all original files on the USB stick will be deleted. Click on 'Start' and then on 'OK' when prompted by the warning screen. Wait for the screen that indicates the formatting process is complete. Click 'OK' on this screen as well.
Final step
Now, copy the files back onto the USB stick. The USB stick is now ready to be used with the Qwiek.up.
