In-depth File Information

Are you having trouble playing files on the Qwiek.up? Make sure to check the files on your USB stick and the USB stick itself using the following requirements:

  • USB-stick:
    • File System: FAT/FAT32
FAT(32) is a specific file system used by USB sticks to organize your files. You can find instructions for formatting here.
    • Types of files on USB stick: .MP4 or .JPEG / .MP3
You can either store photos and music files together on one USB stick or videos. However, it is not possible to have a combination of videos, photos, and music files on the same USB stick.
    • Folder Structure
The Qwiek.up does not support playing files that are stored in a folder on the USB stick.
    • File Name: 0.mp4 / 0.jpeg
To indicate videos, you can use file names like "0.mp4," "1.mp4," "2.mp4," and so on. For photos, you can use file names like "0.jpeg," "1.jpeg," "2.jpeg," and so on. This allows you to control the playback order.
Do you have more than 10 files? Start with "10.", "11.", "12.", and so on. Starting from "10" will prevent the files from getting mixed up.
    • File Size: Must be smaller than the capacity of the USB stick.
The combined size of the files on the USB stick should be smaller than the storage capacity of the USB stick you are using. For example, if you have a 16GB USB stick, the total size of the files should be smaller than 16GB, such as 15GB. It is recommended to check the actual storage capacity of the USB stick on your computer, as it may differ from what is stated on the USB stick.

Why does my USB stick show less capacity than what is stated on the packaging?

For example, a 32GB USB stick has a capacity of approximately 32,000,000,000 bytes (32 x 1,000,000,000). When using the binary calculation in GB (32,000,000,000 / 1,073,741,824), that same 32GB will be indicated as 29GB. This is why the computer shows the capacity of a 32GB USB stick as 29GB.

  • Photos:
    • File Type: .jpeg
JPG, or JPEG, is a file extension for photo files. Simply renaming the extension to .jpeg will not work (meaning it will not change the file type).
    • File Size: Must not exceed 10MB
The desired file size should not exceed 10MB. If the file size is larger, it may cause playback issues such as freezing or stopping.
  • Music:
    • File Type: .MP3
MP3 is a file extension commonly used for music files, not for photo files. Simply renaming the extension to .MP3 will not change the file type or make it compatible for storing photos.
    • File Size: Must not exceed 10MB
The desired file size should not exceed 10MB. If the file size is larger, it may result in playback issues such as not playing, stuttering, or stopping completely.
    • Bitrate: ≤320 kbps
The audio bitrate should be equal to or lower than 320kbps. If the bitrate is higher, it can cause issues with playback such as stuttering or complete stopping.
    • Audio: Mono or stereo
There are two audio channels available for sound, the left and right. In stereo, each channel produces a different sound, while in mono, both channels produce the same sound. However, if there are more audio channels, such as 5.1 surround sound, playback may not work properly, causing stuttering or complete stops.
  • Video:
    • Video format: .mp4
MP4, or MPEG-4, is a file extension used for video files. Renaming the extension to .mp4 will not work, meaning it will not change the file type.
    • Resolution: ≤1920x1080
The desired resolution should not exceed 1920x1080 (1080p) or Full HD. If the resolution is higher, it can cause playback issues such as not working, stuttering, or complete stopping.
    • Bitrate: ≤20 Mb/s.
The video file should have a bitrate lower than 20 Mb/s. If the bitrate is higher, it can cause issues with playback such as stuttering or complete stopping.
    • Framerate: ≤30 fps
The video file should have a framerate below 30 fps, such as 24, 25, or 30 fps. If the framerate is higher, it can cause issues with playback, resulting in stuttering or complete stopping.
    • Frames: progressive frames
Video files with the letter P, such as 720p and 1080p, are known as progressive scans. If a video file has an interlaced format, it will not play properly and may experience issues such as stuttering or complete stopping.
    • Aspect Ratio: 16:9
To make full use of the screen, we recommend using a 16:9 aspect ratio. Other ratios are supported but may result in black bars appearing at the top and bottom of the screen, such as with 16:9 or 4:3.
    • Audio: mono of stereo
There are two audio channels available for sound: left and right. In stereo, each channel produces a different sound, while in mono, both channels produce the same sound. However, if there are more audio channels, such as 5.1 surround sound, playback may not work properly, causing issues like stuttering or complete stops.
    • Audio bitrate: ≤320kbps.
The audio bitrate should be equal to or lower than 320kbps. If the bitrate is higher, it can cause issues with playback such as not working, stuttering, or complete stopping.

Warning! You can either place photos and music files together on one USB stick or videos. It is NOT possible to put videos together with photos and music files on one USB stick.
